In the piece, Journey to The 1950s, I reimagined the folktale of the monkey king, the monk and the white bone spirit traveled to the future of the fifties. The peaches of immortality offer longevity to those that eat them and the trickery monkey king loves to cause trouble and eat them.
How will the story unfold?
Inspiration:
Monkey King also known as Sun Wukong, is my favorite Chinese legendary figure who plays the main character from the novel, Journey to the West. He is known to have superpowers that include 72 different transformations. The original story dates back to the 16th century when he meets the monk, Tang Sanzhang, Pig Demon and the Sandman. The team travels to India while battling other Demons. In the end, Sun Wukong eventually achieved enlightenment.
